Butter Skull: Spectrum explores the tension between beauty and decay – two opposing ideas fused into a single image. The butterfly, a symbol of beauty and transformation, carries within its wings the unmistakable form of a human skull.
A full spectrum of colour moves symmetrically across the wings from violet and blue through cyan, green and yellow to orange and red, while the heavy black structure brings the skull into focus.
Under UV light, Spectrum undergoes a dramatic transformation. The fluorescent colours ignite across the entire composition, intensifying the contrast between the beauty of the butterfly and the darker imagery concealed within its form. Of the four works in the Butter Skull series, Spectrum delivers the most complete UV transformation.
Hand-cut and spray-painted using conventional and UV-reactive Montana paints on a 60 × 60 cm deep-edge canvas.
